The AKS-74U, referred to by many as the “Krinkov”, is a compact variant of the AK74. Its design began in the mid 1970’s and was adopted in 1979 where it was issued to Russian paratroopers, Spetsnaz (special forces), artillery crews, pilots and vehicle crews. It is currently still in service with Russian police units. Parts kits are available, yet rare, for those who want to build their own Krinkov, but keep in mind it requires NFA registration due to the short barrel and the folding stock.

Description

AKS-74U Krinkov Kalashnikov

The AKS-74U, referred to by many as the “Krinkov”, is a compact variant of the AK74. Its design began in the mid 1970’s and was adopted in 1979 where it was issued to Russian paratroopers, Spetsnaz (special forces), artillery crews, pilots and vehicle crews. It is currently still in service with Russian police units. Parts kits are available, yet rare, for those who want to build their own Krinkov, but keep in mind it requires NFA registration due to the short barrel and the folding stock.

The AKS-74U is a compact version of the AK74 and shares parts interchangeability with the majority of its components.  It is built with a stamped, triangular folding stock (S) and differs from its full-length older brother with its hinged dust cover that has a square-notch rear sight and its shortened 7.9”  barrel (U).  On the muzzle sits a “booster” that captures gas to improve cycling due to the short dwell time from the short barrel.
The Krinkov is chambered in 5.45x39mm (7N6) and feeds from double-stack, double-feed detachable box magazines.  These are the same magazines used in standard AK74 rifles.  The magazines exhibit a less extreme curve than the 7.62 magazines and are made from Bakelite instead of stamped steel.  The colors of these magazines can range from orange to brown to nearly-black to “plum” colored.
The Krink has an unloaded weight of 5.5 pounds and measures 19.3 inches long when the stock is folded and 28.7 inches with the stock extended.  The low weight allows the users to easily carry the rifle for extended periods.  Its folded length allows for easy storage as well as maneuvering in and out of vehicles, and its extended length improves its use in close-quarter environments.
The Krinkov has identical controls to the AK74 and utilizes a stamped folding stock that offers a much better cheek weld than the underfolding stock.  The handguard has also been shortened to help reduce the gun’s overall length.  The Krinkov retains the standard pistol grip from the AK74 and, aside from the hinge on the dust cover, disassembles the same way as the full-size rifle.

AKS-74U Fit & Finish

The Krinkov is built on a stamped receiver with a forged barrel trunion.  Just like every other AK, many of the moving parts have wide tolerances.  This made the manufacture of AK pattern firearms much more speedy, and it also has been attributed to the AK’s reliability.  The Krinkov is currently used by Russian police agencies and has been since the early 1980’s due to most Russian military troops not liking the short design.

Additional shooting device at night

The device is attached separately. It is a self -spacing design consisting of 2 parts:

a numbering with an extended slot of a folding type
Fly, increased in width.

The rearrangement does not replace the standard rotary, but is installed directly on it, like the fly. Marking, which shines in the dark, is applied to both components.

The device is installed on the machine once. To use weapons during the day, it can simply be shifted and fixed.

Tactical and technical characteristics of AKS-74U Krinkov

Kalashnikov made him legendary the qualities of a short machine gun. TTX AKS 74U complies with world standards and are a model for many analogues.
General characteristics

Personal weapons automatic for self -defense.
Designed in the USSR, at the factory in Tula.
Equipped mass – 3kg, the weight of the unlawed machine – 2.7.
730/490 mm in a formed/in folded one.
Short trunk – 20.65 cm.
Caliber – 5.45×39
It works on powder gases partially removed from the barrel. Switch shutter.
The rate of shooting is up to 700 per minute.
The starting speed of the bullet is 725-750 m/s.
Aiming range – up to half a kilometer.
The best results are 200 m.
Standard store accommodating 30 rounds. You can attach increased – up to 60 rounds.

The operating data of the machine is evaluated according to the main parameters of firearms.

Range AKS-74U Krinkov

The machine shows the best results at distances not exceeding 200 m. The maximum slaughter effect is reached 100-150 meters. In groups of people at distances up to 500 m, fire will be effective. By a single figure, a good shot will be at a distance of up to 350 m.
The number of shots for a period of time

It is estimated by the number of bullets per minute.

Short lines – up to 100 shots

Separate targets – up to 40.
Combat use for AK folding

Four hits fall in a diameter of 15 cm, that is, shooting from AKS 74U along a fixed target reveals a probable error not exceeding 5 cm. The shots are only single. The distance from the arrow to the target is 100 m, from the stop, the fighter lies. The rear sight is installed on the “P”.
Carrying the battle (short queues) showed the scattering of bullets at distances from 100 to 500 m – 5 positions with a step of 100 m. The shooter lies, the queues are produced from the stop. AKS is given in a standard combat position.

Bullets lie in a circle with a diameter of 10 cm from the smallest distance. Each change of position of the arrow from the original one hundred meters increases the scatter by 10 cm.
If the shooter works lying from the hand, the spread increases vertically and horizontally by 3 and 3.5 times.
When stands and shoots from the hand, the scatter grows 5.5 and 6 times in two planes.

Ammunition

The cartridges used with the ACC are represented by two main types of ammunition.

Ordinary – without special labeling, in a shell made of steel, with a core in a lead shirt.
Traassing – with a green head. They are used to adjust fire, indications of the target and defeat of manpower of the enemy. The core is installed in the head, the checker of the tracing composition is at the bottom of the cartridge.

A bullet fired from a shortened Kalash is breaking through:

Steel sheets with a thickness of up to 5 mm, helmets – from 210 to 500 m
Brownedizer – up to 320 m
soil parapet with thickness up to 2 decimeters – 400 m
Wooden walls – 400 m

The slaughter force of the bullet remains more than a kilometer, can fly to almost 3 km.
The principle of automation

The automatic part of the ACC uses powder gases. After the shot, they go under pressure to the gas chamber. There, a pressure is formed that is sufficient to drive a gas piston, which is thrown back, simultaneously with the bolt system.

This unlocks the barrel channel, the shot sleeve is pushed out by moving the shutter and removed. The trigger is soared due to the compression of the return spring, which is produced by the bolt frame.

She, along with the shutter, returns to the starting position – the return mechanism is triggered. At the same time, the next cartridge goes into a state of readiness, moving into a chamber. This locks the barrel channel after the shutter protrusion is sucked for the stops and the right turn of the shutter. The trigger is transferred into a state of a military platoon after its car output is freed by the whisper of the car output.
